Jay "QuoKane" Cruz is a passionate emcee with a gift for crystalizing moments in time through the use of highly visual poetic devices and master craftsmen wordsmithing. His humble upbringing as a young rapper from Leominster, Massachusetts would later become informed by his frequent uprootings across various New England locations. Though Cruz would find difficulty adjusting to various neighborhoods and school settings, the constant of Hip Hop remained his solace and accelerated the proliferation of his pen-game while helping him ascend to new heights as a respected underground emcee.
After the global pandemic of Covid-19, Cruz dedicated himself to releasing and reworking records from what he calls "THA VAULT." This collection of nearly 200 completed songs has also become the impetus for his latest project entitled "Instant Brotherhood" featuring contributions from scores of producers he recruited domestically and internationally (on the strength of his own domestic and international airplay and previous collaborations with artists such as Terminology and producers such as Genesis 7, Mitchel Drickx Rosso & Audio Mercy, and PreteRosso & Early Grey) who felt his vision of unification through music and Hip Hop culture with an international reach. Quo also enlisted the services of longtime Massachusetts Hip Hop luminary Professor Lyrical who shares a similar gift for the written word while also serving as an actual professor now living in the nation's capital. Together, the duo raps under the moniker "ProQuo" with a summer 2021 release slated for the Instant Brotherhood album.
He is also the CEO of BTGYPAC (Bridging The Gap Youth Program Africa Chapter) an extension of the btgyp.org family created by founder Tamara Wills. The program is focused on bringing together musicians, producers, engineers, dancers, artists, promoters, educators, public speakers, local business owners and more to help put together community events and help provide recourses for the community focusing on the youth.
The process of communicating and recording virtually during the pandemic gave rise to a behind-the-scenes vantage point of Pro and Quo via a live streamed webcast the duo created in the late summer of 2020. "The ProQuo Show" now airs every Friday at 9pm and is carried by www.HipHopCitizen.com, a collection of Hip Hop themed livestream programs. Jay Cruz brings his day-to-day work ethic to the forefront of the show enhanced through the perspective of his day job as US Postal Worker. Ironically, Cruz now delivers the Hip Hop news to thousands as a co-host with Pro Lyrical as they provide week-in-review style commentary and various insights pertaining to their musical process while interviewing fascinating guests live on The ProQuo Show as well.
